It has been closed for a long time due to the Cold War, so let's walk together on Uiryeong-gil in Bukhansan Mountain, which has returned to the arms of citizens.

Fun facts About Uiryeong-gil

Uiryeong-gil in Bukhansan Mountain is a footpath that connects Gyohyeon-ri in Yangju, Gyeonggi-do, and Ui-dong in Gangbuk-gu, Seoul. Since it has been an important road to and from Yangju and Seoul since the past, the 36th U.S. Army Corps of Engineers opened it as an unpaved road to use as a tactical road right after the Korean War.

Unfortunately, on January 21, 1968, North Korean special forces were used as a infiltration route between assault operations to Presidential hall(Chunghwadae), and while a large military unit was stationed in the area, this Uiryeong-gil was also closed to civilians.

Now, with the last police force withdrawing in 2023, Uiryeong-gil was opened to civilians, and the natural environment is really well preserved as it has been closed for a long time!

냉전으로 오랜 기간 닫혀 있다, 시민의 품으로 돌아온 북한산 우이령길을 함께 걸어봐요.

북한산 우이령길 소개

- 북한산 우이령길은 경기도 양주 교현리와 서울 강북구 우이동을 잇는 고갯길입니다.

과거부터 양주와 서울을 오고가는 중요한 길목이었기에, 한국전쟁 직후 미군 36공병단이

전술도로로 사용하기 위해 비포장도로로 개통을 하였습니다.

불행히도 1968년 1월 21일, 북한 특수부대의 청와대 강습작전간 침투로로 활용되어

일대에 대규모 군부대가 주둔하는 한 편, 이 우이령길도 민간인 출입을 통제하고 폐쇄하게 되었어요.

현재는 2023년 마지막 경찰부대가 철수하면서 우이령길을 민간인들에게 개방되었는데, 오랜 기간

폐쇄되어 있던 만큼 자연환경이 정말로 잘 보존되어 있어요!

Information about ‘Uiryeong-gil’ hiking

1. As you have to walk for a long time, make sure to bring plenty of drinking water and snacks to eat in the middle. Wouldn't we be able to get closer while sharing snacks together?

2. The toilet may be uncomfortable. There are toilets at the entrance and exit, but please note that the one in the middle is a toilet that does not use water.

3. I highly recommend that you wear comfortable clothes for hiking and shoes for hiking as well as hiking boots, combat boots, or hiking sneakers!

4. I think it'd be great if you all participated in the meal after this

오랫동안 걸어야 하는 만큼, 충분한 식수와 중간에 먹을 간식을 싸오시길 바랍니다. 함께 간식을 나누면서 더 친해질 수도 있지 않을까요?

화장실이 불편할 수도 있습니다. 입구와 출구에는 화장실이 있지만 중간에 있는 화장실은 물을 사용하지 않는 화장실이니 이점 유의하시기 바랍니다. 

복장은 반드시 하이킹을 위한 편한 복장과 신발도 등산화나 전투화 또는 하이킹용 운동화를 신고오는 것을 강력 추천합니다!
